My Opinion About SexPolStudios:
I am always excited to see something a little different and Sex Pol Studios at least claims to offer something off the beaten track. Still, before I even get into the members area, I'm struck by a sense of disorganization and found it a little confusing to even find the members' entrance, which didn't seem like a good trait for a promo page.
In any case, I made my way in, although the design was so awful that I kept second guessing whether I was actually inside the site or not. Anyhow, since a Quicktime film was loading, I assumed by default that I had indeed accessed SexPolStudios and while I'm all for feminism, sex and politics, not even the combination of all three should be this difficult and painful. In fact, the site really needs to re-think their design and organization because no one wants to be pissed off even before seeing a site's content.
There are continuous films, so you can view them while they're still loading. The film that I happened to randomly click on was an interview, and I loved the laidback and easy atmosphere the director and interviewer created as a discussion about women in porn and bisexuality ensued. I think many female members will appreciate the interviews, and be able to relate to the discussions and I think that they also give men some insight into women's sexuality.
Now, because of the shoddy organization, I was never quite able to determine how many films actually existed on the site, but I think I counted 18 of them. There are also three streaming freebie movies, 24 research articles, information about the SexPolStudios.com, about the director, and then there was a dead link to ladies. I'm not sure if this was supposed to be a model bio area or what, and I was seriously starting not to care. With this attitude in mind, I thought the fair thing to do was just get to the content before I got too disillusioned by the site.
The featured portions of the site seem to be videos and research articles. However, the research was third-party and there wasn't anything original offered by either of the site creators. My frustration with this site almost came to a head until I decided to watch a film called "The Sunshyne Story", which was a 10-minute docudrama. There are also thrillers and other movie genres and films that play up to 60 minutes in duration. As I previously discovered, the QuickTime movie do stream, but there are no downloads whatsoever, which sucks in more ways than I can count, considering the rest of the site. I suppose they have a 320x240 pixel size, but the bitrate was a mystery. Nonetheless, the films I saw were crisp.
I began to see why these were called docudramas, and I even began to better understand why I was so interested in SexPolStudios in the first place. The movies are really well-done and the docudrama I watched skilfully combined current sex news with hardcore. I liked the smooth editing, the narration/reality style, and the filming was so well done that I truly wanted to watch more films. Unfortunately, the movies never could make up for all the disadvantages of the site.
Final Verdict:
Sex Pol Studios wants to be taken seriously and this is fine because they do offer engaging and sexy content, but in order to be taken seriously I think they need to do something about their whole design and organization. If they can't take care of their design and structure, you have to wonder if they really care about their members. In an analogy, when I have a choice between a restaurant that has clean windows on the left side of the street or a restaurant on the opposite side with dirty windows, I definitely feel safer about not getting food poisoning from the place that looks taken care of before I even walk into the space. The same could be said for how I feel about porn sites and SexPolStudios.com definitely makes me cross the road to the other side.
